Amidst all the Nepotism debate in Bollywood, there are some actors, who make it big, despite not having a direct connect to the Industry.
He is one of the latest heartthrobs of the star crazy Indian public but just like some other actors of the current generation, he has won this spot by offering a gamut of performances in the movies he has acted in, taking the challenge of never being repetitive or predictable. Happy Birthday to Ranveer Singh Bhavnani, the talented actor, who turns 35 today.
Born to Jagjit Singh and Anju Bhavnani, a Sindhi family based in Mumbai, Ranveer Singh always aspired to be an actor but once in college realized that joining Hindi movies wasn’t a piece of cake, at least for people not directly connected to the Industry. This made him travel to Indiana University in the United States for completing his graduation but as the acting bug had not left him completely, he took up Acting and Theatre as his minor subject.
Post returning to India, Ranveer worked initially as a Copywriter in noted advertising agencies, which was followed by a stint as Assistant Director. In the meantime, he also continued auditioning for movies but was never getting the roles that he desired to perform.
Luck finally smiled on him when Shanoo Sharma, head of Yash Raj Films casting division, fimalized him for the male lead Bittoo in a romantic comedy titled Band Baaja Baraat, which went on to become a hit with people appreciating Ranveer’s performance. The role also fetched him the Best Debutant Actor Award courtesy Filmfare.
There was no looking back after that for the actor as he dished out varied roles, playing them to perfection. The movies included Lootera (adapted from O Henry’s Last Leaf), Ram Leela (Indianized version of Romeo and Juliet), Gunday (where he played a Bengali criminal), an ensemble movie called Dil Dhadakne Do, Bajirao Mastani (a period drama where he played Peshwa Baji Rao), Padmavaat (he played the villainous Alauddin Khilji to perfection) and finally Gully Boy, where he perfectly portrayed the challenging life of a rapper from the slums.
The actor is now one of the most popular stars in India and is also married to one of India’s female heartthrobs and lead actress in movies, Deepika Padukone, whom he married in November 2018. Let us wish this versatile actor a very Happy Birthday.
